Overview

SteadyPlate (“the App,” “we,” “us”) is a nutrition and health tracking application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and minimizing the data we collect. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how it is used and stored, and the choices you have.

Accounts and Cloud Sync

SteadyPlate requires an account so your data can sync securely across your devices and be restored if you reinstall the App.

When you create an account, we collect and store:

Your email address and display name
Authentication information when you sign in with Apple or Google (we receive a secure identifier from these providers; we do not receive your Apple or Google password)
A profile photo, if you choose to add one
The data you create in the App — meal logs and nutrition information, weight and BMI entries, fasting records, exercise and step activity, water intake, goals, settings, and the profile details you enter

This information is stored on secure cloud servers operated by our backend provider, Supabase, so it can sync to your account. Recent data is also cached on your device for offline use.

How We Use Your Data

To provide core features: tracking, syncing, and restoring your nutrition and health data
To operate your account and authenticate you
To generate personalized coaching and meal analysis (see below)
To manage your subscription and verify Pro access

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising, and the App contains no ads.

Coach Steady (AI Coaching)

SteadyPlate includes Coach Steady, an AI feature that generates personalized coaching messages based on your data.

To produce coaching, a snapshot of relevant data from your account (such as your goals and your nutrition, weight, and activity trends) is sent to a third-party AI provider (Google, via its Gemini API) for processing, through our secure servers.
This data is processed to generate a result that is returned to your account. It is used to provide the feature, not to train third-party models on your personal data.
AI-generated coaching and nutrition information is for general informational purposes only and may be inaccurate. It is not medical, nutritional, or professional advice. Always consult a qualified professional for medical or dietary decisions.

AI Meal Analysis

When you use meal analysis, your meal photo, voice recording, or text description is sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini, through our secure servers) to extract nutritional information, which is returned to your account and stored with your data.

Third-Party Services (Subprocessors)

We use the following services to operate the App:

Supabase — secure cloud database, authentication, sync, and profile-photo storage
Google (Gemini API) — AI processing for Coach Steady and meal analysis, accessed only through our secure servers (your data is sent for processing; our API keys are never stored in the App)
RevenueCat — subscription management and Pro entitlement verification (receives your account ID and email, your purchase and receipt data, and standard device information such as a device identifier and OS version)
FatSecret and Open Food Facts — food and nutrition lookups (we send only your search terms or scanned barcodes; no personal account data)
Expo / EAS — app updates (receives a per-install identifier and app version when checking for updates)
Apple — Sign in with Apple and HealthKit (described below)

What We Do NOT Do

We do not use analytics or usage-tracking tools.
We do not use crash-reporting tools in released versions of the App.
We do not use advertising identifiers (no IDFA), the App contains no ads, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
We do not sell your personal data.

Device Permissions

Camera

Purpose: To take photos of meals for AI-powered nutrition analysis
Usage: Photos are sent for analysis as described above; results are stored with your account
Control: You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings

Photo Library

Purpose: To let you choose a profile photo
Usage: A photo you select is uploaded to and stored with your account so it syncs across your devices
Control: You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings

Motion & Fitness / HealthKit

Purpose: To track your daily step count and activity
Usage: Step and workout data is read on your device, and the resulting activity records are synced to your account along with your other data
Control: You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings
We do not use HealthKit data for advertising, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing.

Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your account directly in the App. Deleting your account removes your personal data from our servers.
Uninstalling the App removes the data cached on your device, but does not by itself delete your account. To remove your cloud data, use the in-app account deletion option.

Children’s Privacy

SteadyPlate is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date above.
